Vortex House

An ordinary garden door in an elegant London residential street of large stucco fronted detached houses with generous rear gardens, partly visible through the gaps between the buildings. This is the external setting for the Vortex House. Like HG Wells’ words, it is about discovering something mysterious and wonderful hidden behind that ordinary and yet magical door which you might just walk past without a second thought….. 

Status: design development

The house will be largely hidden from view, lost in the epicentre of an island of rear gardens, its highly sculpted Hepworth-like shape only visible from above. The more sculptural core-ten steel roofed version is shown, but a largely mimetic sedum alternative is also being developed.
